So many people misconstrue the ideas of rescues. Everyone expects these dead broke horses without issues for little money. That is the biggest misconception out there. It takes me a lot of money and time to get these horses to where their adoptable. 501C3's can sell for less, as they are funded by grants of many kinds, where we are NOT. We have 1 fundraiser a year, which has become our annual event, and with Covoid last year, it did not go well for our first time.

Here at Bartlett’s Little Rescue on the Prairie,LLC, I am an LLC. I have fully funded this entire rescue by myself up until this winter when horses started getting adopted. I covered all the costs out of pocket for all the feed programs, vet cares, emergency cares, farriers, dentists and trainers. Therefore, our rescues are priced at fair market value, and what we have into them financially. These proceeds go back into the rescue now to cover all these costs I was supporting by myself.

Each horse averages about $2000 a month to care for. Because of this, we have very thorough adoption contracts. We put 110% into each horse so they are safe to adopt. Doing so requires many hours of dedication to each horse. And some require many hours of retraining on groundwork and respect. Plus, the hours it takes to get them to the point where they are safe to ride. I love what I do, so I go the extra mile every day to make sure every single one of their needs are met. Even if it means going without something myself which has happened many times. There are always those who will never be adoptable, which is why we keep them as sponsors for our program. They will live the rest of their lives out here.
